- LAND STEWARDSHIP
THE LAND THAT SUSTAINS US, WE SUSTAIN.
Sustainable harvesting isn’t a marketing claim for us — it’s an operational requirement. The health of the palmetto stands we manage directly determines the quality and volume of what we can harvest. Our self-interest and the land’s wellbeing are the same thing.
OUR APPROACH
Harvesting for the next generation.
Stewardship Rooted in Florida
Saw palmetto is not a cultivated crop. It is a native species that has shaped Florida’s landscapes for thousands of years and remains one of the most important wild-harvested botanical resources in North America.
At Plantation Botanicals, we believe sustainability begins with respect—for the plant, for the land, and for the generations who will depend on both in the future.
Responsible Wild Harvesting
Every berry we source comes from naturally occurring populations of Serenoa repens. Because the species cannot simply be planted and harvested like a conventional agricultural crop, long-term stewardship is essential.
Our harvesting practices are designed to support the continued health and regeneration of native saw palmetto stands. We work closely with experienced harvest crews and landowners to ensure harvesting activities remain focused on maintaining a viable resource for future seasons rather than maximizing short-term yield.
Protecting a Native Resource
Florida’s saw palmetto ecosystems face increasing pressure from development, land-use changes, and environmental challenges. We recognize that the future of the industry depends on the preservation of healthy native habitats.
By maintaining long-term relationships with landowners and harvest partners, we help support the responsible management of the landscapes where saw palmetto naturally thrives.
Traceability and Accountability
Sustainability requires transparency. We maintain direct relationships throughout our supply chain, providing customers with clear sourcing information and accountability from harvest through processing.
This direct model allows us to monitor quality, maintain consistency, and ensure that responsible harvesting practices remain a priority at every stage of production.
A Legacy of Stewardship
Plantation Botanicals has been part of the saw palmetto industry for decades. Our founder, Marlin Huffman, was widely recognized for his commitment to advancing knowledge of saw palmetto biology, harvesting, and trade. His dedication helped foster a deeper understanding of one of America’s most important native botanicals.
Today, we continue that commitment by balancing commercial demand with responsible resource management, helping ensure that wild Florida saw palmetto remains available for generations to come.
Because sustainability is not a marketing initiative. It is the responsibility that comes with harvesting a wild resource.
